The Indiana Cave Survey Database Summary
By Rob Jarboe,  Database Custodian - Winter 2006

The main mission of the Indiana Cave Survey is to maintain the database of the known caves in Indiana. This database currently consists of 3,416 entrances representing 3,112 caves. There are 34 counties with known caves on file with the Survey. The ICS has detailed information (report forms) on more than 1,734 cave entrances. This is just over half of the reported entrances within the state. The database also contains data on over 1,936 cave maps. This number includes all maps for a cave.

The amount and quality of information in the database continues to increase due to the efforts of ICS members and cavers who are turning in ICS Report Forms on the caves that they visit.

Because caves are precious resources that need as much protection as possible, detailed data from the database is not available to the public. The best way to find out about caves is to join a local grotto and go caving with fellow grotto members so that you can gain their trust.
