Annual Business Meeting
March 20,1999
The 1999 annual GSS meeting was held at the Southeastern Cave Conservancy's Fricks Cave Preserve near LaFayette Georgia. These minutes, when accompanied by the corrections or additions approved by the GSS, constitute the official record of the meeting.
ATTENDEES: Chair Carl Anderson,Vice-Chair Jerry Wallace, Treasurer Brent Aulenbach, Secretary Kenneth Huffines, and about 35 members and guests.
CALL TO ORDER: Carl Anderson called the meeting to order at 10:45 a.m.
MINUTES: The minutes from the 1998 meeting were reviewed. Carl Anderson moved the minutes be approved. Seconded by Kris Green. Passed unanimously.
REPORTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Chairman Carl Anderson
reported issued cave serial number 500 during the past year.
Treasurer Treasurer Brent Aulenbach reported revenue of $678.74, expenses of $1.194.40, and a balance of $281.17. See attachment A for report.

OLD BUSINESS:
GSS T-shirts Jerry
Wallace announced the T-shirts are in and are for sale at the
meeting for $10.
Cave Springs Kenneth Huffines will insure the GSS Bulletin at the Cave Spring branch of the Floyd County library is up to date.
Biota Survey See Program (below).
20 Best Caves of Georgia No Progress.
Dye Tracing Brent Aulenbach will be conducting a dye trace on Fox Mountain this spring and is looking for field help.
NEW BUSINESS:
GSS Volunteer Help Carl
Anderson called for volunteers to fill the position of "field
officer" (coordinating ridgewalks and other activities) and
Editor. Dan Barnick offered to be Field Officer. Brain
Williamson offered to be Editor.
SCC Dues Carl Anderson moved the GSS to join the Southeastern Cave Conservancy in 1999. James Stevenson seconded. Passes unanimously with Kenneth Huffines (SCC Director) abstaining
SCC Donation Carl Anderson moved the GSS donate $100 to the Southeastern Cave Conservancy, with funds to be transferred when the treasury recovers from Bulletin printing. Seconded by John Stembel. Passed unanimously with Kenneth Huffines (SCC Director) abstaining.
Elections
Chair: Jerry Wallace was elected by
acclamation.
Vice-Chair: Brian Williamson was elected
by acclamation.
Treasurer: Brent Aulenbach was elected
by acclamation.
Secretary: Kenneth Huffines was
elected by acclamation.
PROGRAM: John Jenson and Tim Ozier of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Non-Game Division explained the DNR's 5-year program to inventory the Biota of Georgia Caves. The program is six months along and has already found two new species of spider, one new mite, and a new genus of centipede (all in Fricks Cave) and a new species of harvestman in Howard's Waterfall. John pointed out the high level of cooperation from property owners and the help of GSS cavers acting as guides. The inventory is expected to continue to add to the archival pool of knowledge for Georgia speleology.
