Libera Delemont

(GSP Italy)

Libera is from Turin, Italy.

She has been painting for many years. Her husband is an Italian caver and inspired her to paint caving scenes and underground landscapes. Her work comes from visiting caves in the areas in Northern Italy, which are very highly decorated with many unusual formations.libera

Libera has mastered the study of light on shapes by looking carefully at the natural formations in tourist caves and using the inspiration from her husbands photographs.

Kriste Lindberg

36097RE (CO, FE)

Kriste Lindberg has been caving since 1992. She works primarily with conservation, sustainable growth, and utilizes education and outreach as a positive means to get the word out. Media has been a helpful partner in this endeavor. Her artwork primarily focuses on water color/pen and glass paintings and in addition she's exploring computer graphics as well as the coordination of newspaper and video productions as a facilitator. The champagne flutes were created for the premiere of "Caves: Life Beneath the Forest" and the idea grew from there!

Michael Angelo Gagliardi

MA

Born in New York City in 1962 to Irish and Italian Parents.  He received a B.F.A. in painting and sculpture and a M.A. in Theatrical Design from C.W. College of Long Island University in 1985. He is a proud member of I.A.T.S.E local #2.

Michael Angelo became a certified scuba diver in 1996.  He has since received certifications in technical diving including Full Cave and Technical Gas Certifications.  He began drawing the wet world almost immediately after he began diving. He has a particular fascination with the caves and springs of Florida and the shipwrecks of the Great Lakes.

My studio work and my underwater work both stem from the same place within my soul, but they go in different directions and have different purposes.  One is a journey inward while the other is a journey outward.

Mindy Grayson

Mindy has had an artistic flare most of her life, whether it be sewing clothes and costumes, photography, or mechanical gadgets. Her love of outdoors permeates most of her art, and she enjoys incorporating into it caving and nature. She has been working with stained glass for about 7 years, starting with the more traditional styles, but has branched out into less typical methods, using scrap throw-away pieces, hand-picked directly from the glass factory.

"I love the way the glass bends and flows, and let the glass determine the scene rather than me forcefully doing so. I think the result gives a much more organic and powerful impression."

Mindy also works as a Microbiologist, collecting soil and researching the bacteria for secondary metabolites for agricultural use. Known as "the Dirt Girl", her job allows a handy excuse to go caving and collect samples.

Ellis (Ian Chandler), Great Britain/Spain

(Matienzo, Spain)

Ellis moved, from the UK, to Northern Spain three years ago to develop his art. His art is based completely on the experience, physical and spiritual, of exploring caves, finding their language and seeking their essence. Ellis´s acrylic paintings look to the blackness of the caves and the colours of our existence. Figurative sculptures, in moulded hot glue and acrylic sheet investigate the relationships with our sexuality and consciousness. Using his digital recordings of the sounds in the caves, his movements in the caves and the use of percussion instruments Ellis creates sound images, some with poems, of the magic of caves. The film, with Antony Rohald, ¨¨In sight of light¨¨, achieved third prize at the 2005 ICS in Greece and first prize at the UK national conference film competitions. This film, through images and Ellis´s poetry, describes his encounters with the caves. There is much more to be discovered when exploring, through art, our unlit subterranean worlds.
