Gernika. 70 years
The workshop and art exhibition will be part of the activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the infamous bombings on the town. It is a special year for the town and coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Speleo Club Gernika. So this is to be a major contribution to this years events in and around the town.
Accommodation.
This will be in a pension hostel in the town within walking distance of the workshop space. The workshop space will be a room in the local town hall.
The art exhibition will be in the town hall gallery, a permanent exhibition space.
Basic materials will be supplied, but you may want to bring with you personal equipment etc.
Catalogue.
A catalogue will be produced and printed to coincide with the exhibition. This will refer to the connection between the two anniversaries, the connection of caves as a shelter and the basis of the art show´s concept.
Each artists CV will be presented. In addition the artist is expected to write about their ideas behind the work they will produce during the workshop. These ideas need not be concrete, nor will it be necessary to produce ´working sketches´ prior to the workshop. You should just consider your art and the way it will be able to relate to the theme of ¨Shelter¨¨. A couple of paragraphs will be sufficient.
Already we have some ideas for work. Santi will produce a short film. Edu will be making some sculptures. Ian will be making a sound/image installation. All media will be welcomed.
The organisers, both members of the speleo club, are Santi Urrutia, caver, university teacher, film maker.
Edu Gordo, caver, teacher/artist, sculptor and painter.
