THE PROGRAM CATALOG:
Each program in the catalog is described using a notation in the
form of "A/B/C/D/E" where:
A = Type of program followed by catalog number. For example:
- S = Slide Program (Single Projector)
- V = Video
- F = Film
B = Number of slides or time duration of program. For example
"28:30" refers to a video which is 28 minutes and 30 seconds long.
C = Items included with program. For example:
- C = Cassette tape with narration
- I = Information on tape jacket or insert
- S = Script
D = Program Content. For example:
- P = Professional (Comparable with best programs of its type; suitable
for formal meetings or broadcast. Exceptionally entertaining or educational. Typically a
result of scripting program prior to filming, tight editing, and graphics support.)
- S = Semi-professional (Very good program intended for informal grotto
meetings, but not suitable for broadcast. Typically filmed or assembled on an ad hoc basis
but activity depicted is well organized and well edited.)
- I = Informal (Intended for personal use to gain information on a
topic. In general not suitable for grotto meetings. Typically filmed or assembled on an ad
hoc basis with little editing.)
- N = Not graded
E = Program Medium. For example:
- P = Professional (Comparable with best programs of its type; suitable
for formal meetings or broadcast. Equivalent to second-generation slides or video
typically acquired using a S-VHS/Hi8 or better camera, edited with professional equipment,
and distributed using third-generation or better tape.)
- S = Semi-professional (Very good program intended for informal grotto
meetings, but not suitable for broadcast. Equivalent to third-generation slides or video
typically acquired using a S-VHS/Hi8 or better camera, edited with S-VHS or better home
equipment, and distributed using a fourth-generation tape.)
- I = Informal (Intended for personal use to gain information on a
topic. In general not suitable for grotto meetings. Equivalent to fourth-generation slides
or video typically acquired using a VHS/8mm camera, edited with VHS home equipment, and
distributed using a fourth-generation or greater tape.)
The following example demonstrates how each program is described.
"Fantastic Cave - An account of its exploration. S100/71/S/S/S" This program is
a slide show with 71 slides and a script. The program is suitable for showing at informal
grotto meetings, but not a professional group. It's catalog number is S100.
