Hanta Virus

Hanta virus has been recognized in the last few years to cause a serious respiratory illness leading to respiratory failure with shock like symptoms. It has proven to be fatal 50% of the time.  There is no proven treatment other than supportive care.  Incubation is believed to be less than 2 weeks. Exposure to the virus comes from high concentrations of mouse or rat urine in the air and/or soil.  It has been associated with populations of deer mice and cotton rats.
