MAR Breakdown

Mid-Appalachian Region of
the National Speleological Society

The MAR Breakdown is the journal of the Mid-Appalachian Region (MAR) of the National Speleological Society (NSS). The first issue of the Breakdown was published in early 1986 and acted as a replacement to the earlier MAR flier.

Starting in 2004, the Breakdown became available as a free on-line publication in PDF format, in addition to the standard hard copy mailed to subscribers. The Breakdown is normally published three times a year - prior to the Annual Business Meeting, prior to the Spring Field Meet, and prior to the Fall Field Meet.

Subscriptions:
A complimentary copy is sent to each grotto in the MAR.

For "Adult" registrants (17 and older) who attend a MAR Field Meet, $4.00 of your registration fee goes directly to the MAR. A portion of the fee ($3.00) goes to pay for a 1 year subscription (3 issues) of this newsletter (mailed hard copy) and the remaining portion ($1.00) goes to help other MAR projects.

Individuals may also subscribe by sending $3.00 directly to the MAR Treasurer; contact information can be found under the Officers page on this site.

* The number of issues an individual has remaining, immediately follows the subscribers name, in parentheses, on the mailing label.

Submissions:
Submissions (i.e. articles, notices, etc.) can be sent to the editor either by US Mail or via email. Any articles, announcements, or other materials of general interest to cavers in the Region are welcome. Electronic submissions via email are encouraged, preferably as a Microsoft Word document (.DOC), rich text file (.RTF), or in text format (.TXT). Please consult the editor for any questions as to whether another format of input is acceptable.

MAR Breakdown Issues:
Current and past issues of the MAR Breakdown are available in .PDF format (Portable Document Format) and can be viewed and printed using Adobe Reader software. The latest version of Adobe Reader is available for free downloading by clicking on the 'Get Adobe Reader' button.
