All entrances to Roppel Cave are on private property and accordingly, the owners ultimately have final say on access to the cave. However, for the sake of convenience to both the cavers as well as the owners, the CKKC has made arrangements, where possible, with the owner for access.

1. Roppel Entrance: The Roppel Entrance (AKA, "Historic") is closed at the request of the owner, due to liability and safety concerns. Fortunately, the Roppel Entrance is not a critical access point for most of Roppel Cave.

2. Weller Entrance: The Weller Entrance is also closed for safety and liability reasons. Again, fortunately, this entrance is not a critical access point.

3. Khan Entrance: The Khan Entrance is open, but access is significantly restricted at the request of the cave owner (really, we did not instigate this.) The owner must approve each trip, and the request is only usually granted when the request is from someone he knows. Contact Jim Borden or Dave Weller for more information.

4. Downey Avenue Entrance: This entrance is also has restricted access. Permission for use must be done prior to any trips and led by an approved trip leader. Trips are arranged and managed consistent with long-in-place CKKC procedures for Roppel Cave.

All caves are gated and locked.

Arranging Trips:

Most trips into Roppel Cave, as well as the satellite caves, are in support of cartography and research and are arranged by those usually with the most interest and drive. See the contact list if you are interested in participating in a trip. Most of us will try to accommodate interested folks on our trips, if it is at all possible. Ad hoc trips may sometimes be found posted by someone in the Message Center (forthcoming) or noted in the "News" section; or, you may just have to make a nuisance of yourself by contacting folks directly and compelling them to plan a trip.

We are trying to have pre-arranged weekends in support of cartography and exploration. These dates will be listed in the calendar section, with principal contacts noted, as they become available. As with most large-scale caving projects, you will need to contact someone a few weeks in advance should you wish to participate. Keep an eye on the Calendar Section for this.

Many CRF Expeditions work in cooperation with Roppel trips; contact the appropriate CRF Expedition Leader or Jim Borden for information about specific expeditions or general arrangements.
