OVERVIEW

The current audit of the Society is progressing, though more slowly than one would like. The first audit of an organization with a new auditor, always takes longer than the previous year’s audit as s/he learns how an organization works and determines what needs to be looked at.. It now appears that the audit will be completed by the end of November.

The Society has obtained $1,000,000 Director’s and Officer’s (D&O) coverage from a different insurance carrier.

Certificates of additional insured were provided to the recent NCRC training in New York.

The Society some years ago requested that the National Speleological Foundation have an annual audit, the cost of which would be borne by the Society. The Foundation audit for 2004-05 has been completed and is does facilitate things for the Society’s auditor.

Primarily through the efforts of Scott Fee, the annual fund raising letter has been mailed to the membership. Please respond generously.

Stephanie Searles has returned to working almost full time performing NSS accounting and fiscal functions. Dave Irving helps Stephanie reconcile LedgerMaster accounting at the end of each month and develops fiscal reports. Kevin Smith serves as a consultant for our audit and tax return preparation effort. I lead all of the Department’s efforts and participate in the above activities and more.

FUTURE ACTIVITIES

Completion of the 2004-05 Audit is the priority.

Then the Society’s tax return, form 990, can be filed with the IRS.

The budge planning cycle is beginning and initial budget form will

Be sent to the officers the week after the Board meeting

Assist the Fund Raising committee (Scott Fee) in qualifying for the

Combined Federal Campaign.(CFC)

In cooperation with the EVP, produce a mini annual report if it appears

that the Society can qualify for the CFC.
