Progress:

• Members of the JSS staff have visited the convention site to view the convention facilities and surrounding area. Four convention staff meetings have been attended and a good working relationship has developed with Jean DeVries, John Wilkerson and their staff. The convention staff has provided the JSS with a good facility on site without extra cost to the base convention budget.

o The JSS budget for the 2004 convention has been completed.

o JSS has selected its vendors for providing services and products for this year’s convention.

o The JSS educational programs for convention have been completed, reviewed and have been submitted for publication.

o All surface venues now on the schedule have been visited and checked out.

o Our regular program of repelling and ascending will be part of the vertical program this year. Four complete ascending units (made for training and adjustable from young children to older teens) will again be made available to the JSS and remain available to the committee on a yearly bases for JSS activities.

• The JSS website is under construction and will be up and running before convention starts. The website will contain the following information, but will be expanded as needed:

o JSS staff members.

o Up coming activities calendar.

o Convention schedules

o Trip/Activities synopsis along with extra costs needed to be paid.

o JSS Budgets

o A volunteer registration area

o A working area for the staff (password protected).

o Photographs and histories from past conventions and other JSS activities.

• We have been in contact with the Convention Chair and Co-Chair for the 2005 convention and lines of communication have been established.

Plans:

• Planning for the 2005 convention will commence shortly following the close of the 2004 convention.

o Activities will be expanded again to meet demand as needed during the convention.

o Three sessions of cartography will be added to the schedule both classroom and practical application.

o Two sessions of water quality/microbiology will be added. One session geared for pre-teens and one for teens.

o One extra session of vertical/ascending has been added to the schedule.

o JSS is identifying as many certified Red Cross lifeguards for pool (this is mandatory at a 1:20 ratio) and other water activities.

Problems:

• No problems to report at this time.
