The NSS will seek to become a recognized co-sponsor of
educational and research programs in speleology by providing
financial and administrative support. The Research Advisory and
Educational Opportunities in Speleology Committees are requested,
in cooperation with appropriate NSS Sections, to identify and
contact programs that the NSS may assist, determine their
interest in NSS assistance and co-sponsorship, discuss with them
an appropriate level of support, and report their findings and
recommendations to the Executive Committee.

The Society will co-sponsor, with the Richmond Area
Speleological Society (RASS), "Project Underground," a
supplemental environmental education program. Any contract or
financial obligation must be further approved by this Board. The
NSS agrees to work with RASS to solicit donations and grants and
expand the program nationally.

The Environmental Education Committee is established in the
Department of the Administrative Vice-President for the purpose
of developing an educational program on caves to be taught at
schools (kindergarten through high school) based on Project
Underground.

Information about Educational Opportunities in Speleology will
be provided by NSS Sections. Courses and workshops om speleology
at NSS Conventions will be given by those NSS Members who are
qualified and have an interest in teaching such courses and
workshops.

The Administrative Vice President shall appoint three NSS
representatives to the Project Underground Board of Directors.
The Board of Governors shall confirm such appointments and they
shall be listed as part of the Education Division in the
