Vandeventer
project information
The Boy Scouts of America have approved of cavers doing a karst inventory at Camp Vandeventer, Friday Dec. 12 through Sunday Dec. 14. Camp Vandeventer is located near Waterloo, IL . This first meeting for the inventory is scheduled to coincide with the ISS business meeting that same weekend. It is not an ISS project at this time, but will be on the agenda to be made official at the next meeting. We will be camping, there is firewood, potable water, and toilets. The weekend will be devoted primarily to walking the property locating and recording cave entrances with GPS. This can be done regardless of the weather. If weather and interest permit, we can compare the cave maps to the caves to check for completeness, do some non-collecting bioinventory, and evaluate the caves for hazards and rescue requirements if campers were missing and throught to be in a cave. Known caves on the property range from short and dry to wet(suit) and vertical. If you want to compare cave maps to the caves, don't forget your caving gear . ***Unfortunately, there is no alcohol allowed on the camp.*** If I find a way for us to have a drink with dinner and around the evening fire, I will make that known. There is no hunting allowed on the camp, so we do not have to worry about interfering with anyone's hunt. Please contact Philip Moss (philipmoss@JUNO.COM) for more information. There is a liability release form that needs to be emailed in advance to participate in this project. ***All those planning to attend this function must contact Philip.***
