SERA 2002 CAVE CARNIVAL GENERAL INFORMATION:

The 2002 SERA Cave Carnival will be held at the East Fork Stables (EFS) campground near Jamestown, Tennessee. The region surrounding the campground features many caves as well as other recreational opportunities.

East Fork Stables campground is located on 12,000 privately-owned acres along the western edge of Cumberland Plateau. Several significant caves are on this property, including Buffalo and Xanadu.  Information on the campground is available on the web at: http://users.multipro.com/eastfork/.  Field camping is included with registration.  A limited number of individual sites, some with electrical hook-ups, will be available at additional cost. These sites will be assigned by SMG in the order that the pre-registration forms are received. Showers and bathrooms will be available. Arrangements to arrive early or stay late should be made directly with EFS.

We are working towards featuring a variety of caves within a reasonable driving distance of the campground. In addition to providing a guidebook, a cave information booth will be manned Friday and Saturday.  Areas to be featured include caves in the vicinity of:

Black Mountain             Fall Creek Falls            Jamestown            Pall Mall
Calfkiller/Sparta            Glenobey                      Lost Creek            Standing Stone
Cookeville                    Grassy Cove                 Monterey              Virgin Falls

There are also a number of parks within a reasonable driving distance of the campground, including Pickett State Park and Big South Fork National Park. These parks offer hiking, swimming, and other activities.  There are some particularly good swimming holes in the area. The cave information booth will have information on these non-caving opportunities as well.

A cave slide show will be held on Friday night. Please bring your best slides to share.

Our guidebook is now at the printer.  Highlights include:

Danny Gammon and All Over the Road will perform on Saturday night.  Their repertoire includes bluegrass, pop, and early jazz, i.e. music that's all over the road.   They have been playing at festivals and shows in the Knoxville area and were recently featured on WUOT's "Live at Laurel" show.  Danny plays guitar and the other band members play bass, fiddle and mandolin.
