![]() ![]() The Sequoia Forest Conservation Task Force is dedicated to the study of caves in the Boyden Cave pendant, located at the northern section of the Sequoia National Forest. This is a very cave-rich area, however studies have so far concentrated on Church Cave and Boyden Cavern. hurch Cave is one of California's most important caves. By the end of 1997, Church Cave was surveyed to a length of 3.45 miles with depths reaching 519.2 feet. There are still many leads to push, and surveying is still very much under way. Boyden Caverns is also nearby, with passages coming within 400 feet of Church Cave. Survey of Boyden is nearly complete, at 0.63 miles. Boyden Caverns is actually a commercial cave, with a 40 minute walking tour available for visitors of the park. Survey trips are scheduled throughout the year, weather and road conditions permitting. If you would like to lend your survey or cartography expertise to the project, feel free to drop by a grotto meeting and chat with the executive committee--help is always appreciated!
