"Sure, we may be one of the smaller grottos. But you know what? We are one of the healthiest and happiest grottos around!!" - Lynn Roebuck

Home of the 'Porters!

New Officers
Elections were held at the December, 2009, meeting, and a new executive committee was elected. A special election in February 2010 filled the secretary position, as Sherri Langford moved to West Tennessee (miss you!). The members of the new executive committee are on our about sccg page. Another special election will be held at the next general meeting to fill the Vice-Chairman slot vacated by the out-going "Bull" Snook (miss you, too!). Rumor has it that at least one member has picked a new victim person to nominate, but this reporter is not sayin' nothin'.

Many thanks to the officers of 2009 for an interesting year.

SCCG's 15th Anniversary and Spring Fling 2010
SCCG is celebrating its 15th year by initiating its first Spring Fling event. This year we hope to combine forces with Birmingham Grotto's annual canoe outing at Buffalo Bud's in Wayne County, TN, on the Buffalo River. A date has not yet been set, but will probably be in May. Check back here for final details.

SCCG's fifth annual 'PorterFest will be held September 10-12, 2010, at Tennessee's longest known cave, beautiful Blue Springs Cave in White County, TN. Cavers everywhere are invited! Read more here.
Best Armed Grotto?

What is SCCG's Official White-Nose Syndrome Policy?
"As a grotto we should continue to plan grotto cave trips for our membership to privately-owned caves that are not listed as Significant Bat Caves. The membership should practice Decontamination Procedures after each grotto cave trip. The grotto will not plan grotto cave trips to State owned caves, federally owned caves or caves owned by The Nature Conservancy. However, if it is proven that cavers are spreading White-Nose Syndrome the grotto will revisit this policy."
