Caving Ethics

… some rules to follow so that we can continue to explore and enjoy caves …

When caving there are some basic rules that you must understand in order for caves to survive for the following generations.

What we do: Leave no trace!

Why we do it: Caves are totally non-renewable resources, and easily be impacted by our passing.

We are visitors in a lightless, alien environment, where even the slightest man-made item, like a thread from our clothing, is noticeable and out of place. On long trips, be sure to visit a bush before you enter a cave, as human excrement and urine is harmful to the cave environment. We keep to a single track, following the original trail if possible to avoid leaving footprints everywhere in the cave. This is a changeless place, and the scuff marks made in passing, will be there for a long, long time!
