There will be more information about the Bruski Sink clean out
concerning what we were able to do, and future consequences,
to be reported in MI Karst and elsewhere, but until then
THANK YOU TO ALLfor your
participation in this
significant effort. Several people were commenting on how
much better it looked already (one used the term beautiful).
Those working in the sink made the most tonnage progress - truly
spectacular! They also ran a significant hazard with all that
stuff
hanging over their heads as it was being lifted out of the sink
via the crane. The sink is approximately 80 feet deep.
Items removed included a bunch of cars or at least what was
left
of them, rolls of fencing, tires, snowmobiles, fuel oil tanks,
refrigerators, stoves, freezers, TV's, and several bags of general
trash such as cans, bottles, clothing, magazines, ect...
Hypo needles were found in an area on the slope however they
were left as no one had a good safe way to remove them at the time.
There still remains a lot of garbage in the sink that needs
to be removed
therefore another clean up weekend will likely be scheduled sometime
in the upcoming year. Many volunteers will be needed for the
next
clean up and we would be grateful for whatever help you could provide.
Contact Rane Curl
for further information on how you can help.
The Bruski and the nearby Steven's Twin Sinks are owned and
maintained by the Michigan
Karst Conservancy.
