Princeton Tec Apex Headlamp
For those of you who have not seen the Princeton Tech Apex, you really need to go check it out. This headlamp comes with two styles of battery, one long-life lithium-ion battery that requires special charging, and one that take four standard AA bateries. I own one of the latter. This is considered a waterproof headlamp, although I have never gotten it completely submerged. The central 1 watt LED lamp is amazingly bright! It has a high beam that goes farther than any other LED light I have ever seen. The two side flood lamps also put out a great deal of light, but in a wider spread that illuminates large passages and rooms. The only real problem the light has is power. The main LED take a lot of juice to run. It tends to last under two hours if run on the high beam non-stop. The flood lights run quite a bit longer, but still much less than some of the other LED lights available. Fortunatly, Princeton Tec build in a feature that warns you that power is getting low by blinking the light. It also has a small LED on top that changes when the power gets low. This way you know you will have to change batteries sometime soon. Overall, this is a great lamp. I don't blame Princeton Tec for the power usage, it is just that battery technology has not yet caught up to the demands of the LEDs. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a high end LED light.
