JRG Meeting Minutes
Regular Meeting

The November meeting of the James River Grotto was held on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Warren House ground floor activity room at Lynchburg College.
Board Meeting:
The board meeting began at 6:30 PM. Board members present were Mike Frazier, Matt Lair, Howard Kirkland and Chuck Waller.
It's that time of year to elect the JRG Executive Board and from that Board the grotto officers. In order to be on the Executive Board, our by-laws require you to be an NSS member. Mike Frazier, our current President, will be emailing NSS grotto members to see if they would like to be candidates for the 2007 JRG Executive Board. The election of this board will take place at our Christmas Party on Saturday, December 16, 2006.
General Meeting:
The general meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Members present were Jim Tennant, Paul Stern, Harry and Larry Sowers. LC New Horizons staff Ryan Mayr, Evan Miller, Neal Gunter and Ken Wood were also attendance
Welcome Visitors: There were no visitors.
Trip Reports: There were three caving trips in November. Members gave trip reports on adventures to Island Ford, Marshall's and Scott Hollow caves.
Previous Meeting Minutes Update:There were no changes to the previous meeting minutes.
Finance Report: The grotto's current treasury balance is $2,384.91.
In October, James River Grotto donated $250.00 to 8 Rivers Safe Development Task Force to aid in the conservation efforts to help Sharpe's Cave. The progress of this conservation effort can be monitored at 8RiversSafeDevelopment.com and SaveTheSharpFarm.com .
Committee Reports:
Conservation: No report
Safety & Techniques: Jim Tennant, JRG Safety and Techniques Chairperson, conducted a clinic on tying the Figure of 8 knot. Members at the meeting tried several different techniques for tying this knot.
Education: No report
Membership: No report
Web Site: New members, Paul and Melanie Stern, will be updating our website in the coming months.
Trip Coordinator / Events:
On Sunday, December 10, a cave trip to Starne's Cave is planned.
The grotto's Christmas party will be on Saturday, December 16 at Paul and Melanie Stern's home.
Trip and Events Coordinator, Matt Lair, will be emailing everyone with specific details regarding all the above activities.
Anyone interested in attending the "2007 Crawlathon" at Carter Caves State Park in Olive Hill, KY can get details at www.crawlathon.com. This will take place January 26-28, 2007.At this time there are several JRG members going to this event and motel reservations have been made.
General Discussion:
New Horizon has some great logo items for sale with all income going back into scholarships for LC students. Contact Neal Gunter or Evan Miller. These stocking stuffers along with JRG logo T-shirts and sweatshirts will be available at the December 16 Christmas Party.

Program:
Following adjournment of the meeting, members enjoyed watching Howard Kirkland tie some exotic knots that may or may not be used in future outings.
