JRG Meeting Minutes
Regular Meeting
February 27, 2007

The February meeting of the James River Grotto was held on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Warren House ground floor activity room at Lynchburg College.
Board Meeting:
The board meeting began at 6:30 PM. Board members present were Mike Frazier, Matt Lair, Howard Kirkland, Harry Sowers, Paul Stern and Chuck Waller.
The board discussed changing our website service provider from AT & T to the NSS.
The other topic was upgrading the JRG membership packets.
General Meeting:
The general meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM. Members present were Jim and Bess Tennant, Melanie Stern and Larry Sowers. LC New Horizons staffs, Tom Landesman and Helen Wolfe, were also in attendance.
Welcome Visitors: LC student Mark Halley was welcomed to the meeting.
Trip Reports: Cave trip reports to Breathing, Porter's and Scott Hollow Cave were presented. See the trip report details online at our website.
Previous Meeting Minutes Update: The previous meeting minutes were changed to include that Matt Lair is still the JRG Trips and Events Coordinator.
Finance Report: Current treasury balance is $2,660.21.
Committee Reports:
Conservation & Education: Paul Stern, the C & E Chairperson, presented everyone with a surprise 10 question pop quiz on caving.
Safety & Techniques: Jim Tennant, S & T Chairperson updated everyone regarding the upcoming cave rescue classes.
Membership: Howard Kirkland, Membership Chairperson will be making some upgrades to the JRG membership packets.
Trip and Events: T & E Coordinator Matt Lair will be emailing everyone with details regarding upcoming caving activities.
Web Site: Webmaster Melanie Stern will be looking into the details required to change the JRG website host to the NSS.
Gear Master: Neal Gunter, JRG Gear Master can be contacted at (434) 525-5022 if you need equipment.
Trips and Events:
On Sunday, March 11, there will be a cave trip to Porter's Cave.
The Spring VAR will be April 27,28 and 29. A trip to Marshall's and Aqua Cave is scheduled for May 6. Matt Lair will be emailing everyone with cave trip details.

General Discussion:
The grotto discussed purchasing a first aid kit to have available on future cave trips.
There will be a Cave Rescue Class in Blacksburg, VA on April 20-22. Paul Stern has the details.
March is just around the corner and some members still need to pay their 2007 membership dues.

Program:
There was no program following the meeting. Jim Tennant will be showing a DVD on Carlsbad Caverns at the March meeting.
