Regular Meeting

The September meeting of the James River Grotto was held on Tuesday, September 25, 2011 at Big Lick Tropical Grill, route 29 bypass in Lynchburg, VA.

Board Meeting:

There was no 6:30 PM Board Meeting to discuss business.

General Meeting:

The general meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Dr. George Wortley, Harry Sowers, Larry Sowers, Chuck Waller, David and Jessica Collins, Paul and Melanie Stern, Mike and Rudee Frazier were present. Cecil James and son Joel were also at the meeting.

Trip Reports: Harry, Larry and Chuck reported on there recent trip to Maxwelton Cave near Lewisburg, WV. Harry and Larry also told everyone about the Mammoth Cave Restoration project that they participated in this Summer.

Previous Meeting Minutes Update: Previous meeting minutes were approved with no changes.

Finance Report: The grotto's checking balance is $3,192.50.

Larry Sowers purchased (2) cable ladders for the grotto for $250.83. The Grotto voted to buy some small diameter caving rope to use with our cable ladders.

Committee Reports:

WNS is still an issue to deal with.

Trips and Events:

There are plans for a November 12, 2011 grotto trip to Maxwelton, Culverson or McClung's Cave.

There are plans for a Tawney's and Link's trip in the coming months.

Grotto members are invited to a party at Dr. George Wortley's home on October 22, 2011. Watch for details.

Fall VAR will be October 14-16, 2011at the RASS Field Station, Bath County, VA.

The 2012 NSS National Convention will be at Lewisburg, WV on June 25-29, 2012. Watch the website and emails for more details.

General Discussion:

Members were ask to start thinking about options for our December Christmas Party and the election of new board members for 2012. Details will be discussed at the October 25, 2011 meeting. A tentative date of December 17 was tabled as a possible date for the party.

Program:

There was no program. Internet service at Big Lick's was down.
