Regular Meeting
October 27, 2009

The October meeting of the James River Grotto was held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Big Lick Tropical Grill, route 29 bypass in Lynchburg, VA.

Board Meeting:

The board meeting began at 6:30 PM. Board members present were Paul Stern, Melanie Stern, Mike Frazier, Harry Sowers, Larry Sowers and Chuck Waller. There was no board member business to discuss.

General Meeting:

The general meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Members Jim Tennant, George Wortley, Howard Kirkland, Jess and David Collins, and Robbie Donavan were present. There were no visitors.

Trip Reports: The September grotto trip to Crossroads Cave was discussed.

Previous Meeting Minutes Update: None

Finance Report: The grotto current checking balance is $2,841.33.

Committee Reports:

Conservation/Education: Harry Sowers reported on the current status of the Dry Cave survey project.

Trips and Events:

There is an upcoming grotto cave trip to Scott Hollow Cave in November. Watch the website and emails for more details. Spring VAR 2010 will be May 21-23 at the WV Fairgrounds. Also, the 2012 NSS National Convention will be at the Fairgrounds. Paul and Melanie Stern have graciously invited members to there home this year for our grotto Christmas Party. The event will be on Saturday, December 19 at 6:00PM and election of the 2010 grotto officers will take place at the party.

General Discussion:

Harry Sowers discussed the cave survey project of Dry Cave to the grotto. Paul Stern reported that some have asked about another vertical training. Paul contacted Carl Amundson and he will be happy to do another training in the spring.

Program:

Howard Kirkland presented a great slide show of one of his paddling trips to Missouri.
