Regular Meeting
March 29, 2011

The March meeting of the James River Grotto was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Big Lick Tropical Grill, route 29 bypass in Lynchburg, VA.

Board Meeting:

There was no old or new business to discuss.

General Meeting:

The general meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Dr. George Wortley, Harry Sowers, Larry Sowers, Ken Mays and Chuck Waller were present. Visitors at this meeting were Cecile James and son Joel Keller. Cecile is a long time caver who many years ago operated her business, B & C Wunderware in Blacksburg, VA. She and her son recently relocated in Lynchburg from Nashville, TN.

Trip Reports: There were no trip reports although it is worth mentioning the Larry Sowers seems to have made a full recovery from his most recent trip to Scott Hollow Cave.

Previous Meeting Minutes Update: Previous meeting minutes were approved with no changes.

Finance Report: The grotto current checking balance is $3,431.33 with no outstanding debts. 2011 dues are still being paid.

Committee Reports:

There were no committee reports.

Trips and Events:

Spring VAR 2011 will be April 29 - May 1, 2011 in Durbin, WV. This will be the grottos April cave outing.

There are plans for a Tawney's, Link's and Smokehole trip in the coming months.

The 2011 NSS National Convention will be at Glen Wood Springs, CO on July 18-22, 2011. Watch the website and emails for more details.

General Discussion:

There was a discussion on having a vertical training session. Watch your email for upcoming details.

Program:

The group watched UTube videos of some of George Wortley's Copper Canyon adventures.
