Regular Meeting
April 26, 2011

The April meeting of the James River Grotto was held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Big Lick Tropical Grill, route 29 bypass in Lynchburg, VA.

Board Meeting:

There was no old or new business to discuss.

General Meeting:

The general meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Dr. George Wortley, Harry Sowers, Larry Sowers, Ken Mays, Chuck Waller, Jessica and David Collins were present. There were no visitors

Trip Reports: There were no trip reports.

Previous Meeting Minutes Update: Previous meeting minutes were approved with no changes.

Finance Report: The grotto current checking balance is $3,431.33 with no outstanding debts. 2011 dues are still being paid.

Committee Reports:

WNS is still spreading. It's in Kentucky now.

Ken Mays reported that he is in contact with representatives from Liberty University and Randolph College with hopes of student membership from these institutions.

There was a large response from members in regards to our possible vertical training clinic. Plans are in the works for this to happen in the coming months.

Trips and Events:

Spring VAR 2011 will be April 29 - May 1, 2011 in Durbin, WV. This will be the grottos April cave outing.

There are plans for a Tawney's, Link's and Smokehole trip in the coming months.

A trip to Culverson Creek will be coming up after we get through the rainy season.

Harry Sowers will be contacting landowners for a trip to Maxwelton Cave.

The 2011 NSS National Convention will be at Glen Wood Springs, CO on July 18-22, 2011. Watch the website and emails for more details.

General Discussion:

There was more discussion on a vertical training clinic.

There was no program.
