Regular Meeting

The April meeting of the James River Grotto was held on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Brewer House ground floor activity room at Lynchburg College.

Board Meeting:

The board meeting began at 6:30 PM. Board members present were Paul Stern, Melanie Stern, Mike Frazier, Harry Sowers, Robbie Donovan, Chuck Waller and Ken Mays, alternate board member. The primary focus of this meeting was the latest news on WNS. The Executive Board voted in favor of supporting the moratorium on caving until our next meeting.

General Meeting:

The general meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Matt Lair was present.

Trip Reports: Due to WNS there has been no wild caving. Members attending the Spring VAR reported on their trip to Grand Caverns and the West Virginia Via Ferrata.

Previous Meeting Minutes Update: None

Finance Report: The grotto current checking balance is $3,481.33.

Committee Reports:

Conservation: WNS updates were discussed.

Safety & Techniques: The vertical training clinic is still in the planning stages.

Education: No report

Membership: No report

Website: No report

Trips and Events:

The location of the May meeting of the grotto may change from the usual location at Lynchburg College Watch the website and emails for more details.

General Discussion:

After 2 years of searching, it has been reported that Larry Sowers has finally found the grotto's DVD about Single Rope Techniques. I'm sure Larry is relieved to have found the mysterious DVD so that he will not have to deny having it for another year. The grotto purchased a 5 to 1 pulley system at the Spring VAR.
