ESSO Grotto Map Collection

ESSO works hard to build upon the 35 years of research that is has already created.  In doing so the grotto has created a map collection that suppresses that of almost any private collection of the area.  ESSO's collection contains a major focus on the mapping caves and pits in the Eastern Kentucky area. Access to the collection is limited to offline access typically only, however from time to time various maps will be presented online to give the viewer a opportunity to see the work that is on-going in ESSO.  The Grotto works hard to protect the caves from vandalism and entry during periods of hibernation of the various bat species. It is important to not venture into caves without the proper experience and equipment. **IMPORTANT TO NOTE**

A lot of area caves mapped are on PRIVATE PROPERTY, with permission granted to ESSO for special access.  It is VERY IMPORTANT to respect land owners and gain permission before entering private property.  This also applies to state park property, a permit must be granted before accessing caves in the park.
