Bruce has been facinated with caves ever since his parents took him to Carlsbad Caverns in 1972. While working at California Caverns in 1983, he became "hooked" on wild cave exploring, but did so independently for many years, as he did not realize an organization like the NSS existed.
Some time in 1999 or 2000 he met a group of 4 beginning cavers while leading a commercial trip at Moaning Cavern. These 4 men pestered him to take them wild caving, but dismayed by the vandalism he had seen in local caves, Bruce refused to take them anywhere until they joined the NSS, which he had now learned of from co-workers. The "Trolls" as they called themselves joined the So. Cal. Grotto, and made Bruce "Troll # 5". In 2002 they informed him that he was responsible for at least 20 people becoming NSS members, so he decided he should also.
Since joining Columbia Grotto, he has become the manager of Moaning Cavern. Currently he is webmaster of the grotto, and in the past was Secretary. He also served on the board of the National Cave Association as Region 6 Director. Traveling whenever posible, he has caved in over 14 states.
