Father's Day , 2005
On
Fathers Day, 3 fathers grouped together to enjoy the day. There was Cave Junky, Dale
H., and Tom LeFrank. We adventured into a motherlode cave, which turned out to be
quite a treat. I was there 3 or so years ago with little Joe. When Joe and I went
into the cave it was a 100 ft or so, about 15 min. if we took our time. This time
when we went in, things were a little different. Over the last few years there has
been more rain, Which increases the water flow (seasonal) in the cave. An area at
the lower end of the cave had shifted, moved, or relocated some mud and made a small
access hole into another section of the cave which I did not know existed.
As the biggest person in the group (as usual) we all decided that
if I would fit, then everyone would think about going further ( they didn't want
to get muddy). I made it. The mud was not as sticky as thought. But I worked for
it, and it was worth it. There was about 100 ft more cave that I had never been in.
A lot of the formations were broken of at ceiling level. What happens, is in heavy
rains, large amounts of water enter the cave. The road that was put in covered or
decreased the resurgence output. So the whole lower area floods. The room is over
6 ft tall. Look at the pictures and notice the leaves stuck in the ceiling and
all the ceiling formations that are broken. That is a lot of water and flooded area.
Most of the cave floods. There were a lot of formations, before the road was put
in. It was at one time a very well decorated cave. I believe a little shovel monkey
activity and other areas might be accessible. It was a treat and new cave for our
group to enjoy.
After this we went to the other side of the road and visited Connies
Cave. 2 months ago there 52 bats counted. This time there was 0 bats, and no guano
on the ground. We were bummed. That was what our Fathers Day consisted of.
