Buffalo Valley Grotto History

The Buffalo Valley Grotto started off as most organizations do, as an idea. It was and idea shared by two cavers who met while working at Woodward Cave as guides. One of them had been a member of the NSS in the past while the other had stayed away from joining much of anything. The two had discussed the idea of forming a grotto repeatedly. The two realized that it was a possible and decent idea to form a grotto based in Union County and to find more cavers in the local area. The two of them started working on the idea and looking for more folks who where interested. In short time, the two turned into three, with another joining their ranks and eventually five. It was at this point that the grotto applied for a charter with the National Speleological Society and in short time became a member grotto. Since then the grotto has slowly grown in size, welcoming all who would join.

Some members of the grotto are currently doing a bit of ridgewalking & digging in Haines Township(Centre County), and other projects are in the works.
