Grindstone Clean-up Project (2004 - 2006)

For two years, friends and members of the Bryson City Grotto have been doing a major clean-up and restoration of Grindstone Cave in Tennesee. Although Grindstone Cave is a privately owned cave, it has had many unwanted visitors who have left massive amounts of string, graffiti, and trash. With much effort, many commercial size trash bags were filled and hauled up the difficult vertical entrance of this cave. Cave walls that were once completely hidden in spray paint are now visible. The amazing progress in this cave has left our cavers unable to pass by graffiti and trash without removing it. There is still more work to be done in the back recesses of Grindstone Cave, but the progress that has been made has given us a strong sense of pride. We look forward to finishing this project and starting more clean-up projects in the area.

STAY TUNED
for more cave exploration and clean-up projects.
