Youth Group Visitations At GSP

Are you a Coordinator for a Scout or Youth Group that wants to visit Great Saltpetre Preserve? If so, please fill out our youth groups form. Then contact our team of Youth Group Coordinators for the Greater Cincinnati Grotto at . They will coordinate available dates for your visit and can arrange for a sponsor and/or a program presenter for your group.

Cavers with the Greater Cincinnati Grotto, the Bluegrass Grotto, and the Dayton Underground Grotto can offer guided tours through the Great Saltpeter Cave and many wild caves in the area.

We have a designated camping area for large groups at the Preserve. Potable water is available on the property. Spigots are next to the shower house and on the east end of the shelter. Outhouses and port-a-potties are available for use. Please keep them neat.

Firewood is not always available on the property. If you will be traveling for more than an hour to reach GSP, regulations against transport of firewood due to the emerald ash borer will probably apply to you. Please protect our Preserve and check the regulations in your area and for your route to the Preserve. Our youth group coordinator can help you find a source for local firewood if needed.

Due to White Nose Syndrome (WNS) moving through the bat population, we have instituted decontamination procedures as a precaution against the spread of the disease from human carriers. We ask that you decontaminate all gear, clothing, and boots before entering Great Saltpetre Cave or any of the wild caves in the area. Currently, 10% bleach solution, Lysol All-purpose Professional cleaner, and the antibacterial form of Formula 409 have been demonstrated to be effective at killing Geomyces sp., the fungus associated with WNS, on non-porous surfaces. Please refer to the NSS website at http://www.caves.org/WNS/index.htm for the most current information about decontamination procedures and information about White Nose Syndrome.

Please read the Preserve Rules, the Cave Rules, and the GSP Management Plan. You must also fill out a Waiver for each person who will be visiting Great Saltpetre Preserve.
