To support research
in any field of study that helps fulfill the U.S. Geological Survey's
mission. The mission of the U.S. Geological Survey is to collect, organize,
interpret, and
publish geological, topographic, biologic, and hydrologic information.
This information consists of maps, databases, images, and descriptions
and analyses of water, energy, and
mineral resources, land use, and land cover, underlying geologic structure,
and the dynamic processes of the earth.
Examples of funded projects: Support for various boards and committees of the National Academy of Science; and various earth science research projects.

Requirements: doctorate in anthropology or a related discipline
Possible caving-related topic: Caving in Belize, Mexico, S. America
To assist anthropological
research projects undertaken jointly by two (or more) investigators from
different countries. The purpose of the program is to encourage
collaborations in which the principal investigators bring different and
complementary perspectives, knowledge, and/or skills. Projects must be
primarily for research.
Projects primarily for other purposes, such as training, education, or
writing, are not eligible under this program, although such components
may be served within the scope of
the larger research project.

Topic: Water Quality Cooperative Agreement Allocation

EPA Region 6 is soliciting
proposals from State agencies and Tribes interested in applying for Federal
assistance for Water Quality Cooperative Agreements under the Clean
Water Act section 104(b)(3) in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New
Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
For unique and innovative
projects that address the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination Systems (NPDES) program with special emphasis on wet weather
activities, i.e., storm water, sanitary sewer overflows, and concentrated
animal feeding operations as well as projects that enhance the ability
of the regulated community to deal
with non-traditional pollution problems in priority watersheds.

The Conservation Committee is authorized to award up to $5,000 annually from the Save-the-Caves Fund to make grants of up to $1000 to Internal Organizations, Conservation Task Forces, Conservancies, or to individual NSS members for specific projects that involve cave or karst conservation, restoration, or cleanup. The Conservation Committee is responsible for establishing the application, review, and award process. Recipients of these grants shall submit written reports to the Society as stipulated by the Chairman of the Conservation Committee.
