Fundraising Workshop at 2003 NSS Convention Cave Conservancy Home

Replacement Fundraising Roundtable on Wednesday

The Fundraising Roundtable is in place of a Fundraising Workshop that was cancelled due to insufficient registrants. This will be an opportunity for all NSS internal and associated organizations to exchange information on fundraising objectives, successes and problems.

The Roundtable will have three parts:

1. Short presentations from Volunteer representatives of internal organizations, conservancies, etc, on their fund raising successes (or failures). Presentations will be limited to seven minutes for each
representative.

2. Question periods after each presentation, during which attendees may ask representatives for suggestions on solving fund raising problems.

3. A general discussion of fund raising will follow as time permits. It is hoped that this Roundtable may initiate a network for education and mutual assistance in raising funds for conservation or other projects.

The Fundraising workshop described below has been canceled due to low attendance and other factors. As of 30 June 2003

TO:  NSS Related Organizations that do Fundraising

It was suggested at the Conservancies meeting during the 2002 NSS Convention that a workshop on Fundraising during the 2003 Convention would be of considerable interest to both cave conservancies and other NSS related organizations. Such a workshop has now been arranged for Wednesday, 6 August, at the Porterville CA Convention.

The workshop is being led by a professional business consultant to many organizations, including the Land Trust Alliance, who is experienced working with mostly volunteer land trusts. The same type of workshop under other auspices has cost participants $75 and up. However this was thought valuable enough to the cause of cave conservation by the work of cave conservancies that the National Speleological Society, the National Speleological Foundation, and the Cave Conservancy Foundation (of Virginia) have underwritten nearly half of the expense.

Although some emphasis will be on the needs of cave conservancies, the workshop should be valuable to any NSS related organizations that engage in fundraising activities.

This is a unique opportunity for all NSS related organizations to have members obtain this training in association with an NSS Convention.

Pay for the fundraising workshop at the same time you register for the NSS 2003 Convention through the Convention website (as noted in the linked workshop registration forms), as well as return to the workshop organizer a workshop registration form for each participant.
